STIFFENING PAINT
For the "dry brush" method to work in oils, the
paint must be much stiffer than it comes out of commercially prepared
tubes.
I squeeze
out the paint onto cardboard or blotter paper, which absorbs the excess
oil in about 15 to 30 minutes. (Notice the staining around the edges
of
the paint.)
The resulting paint is a stiff, almost
sculptural pigment that has what I call "textural memory."
