Ballard Bridge

| Fog scenes are particularly appealing because of the way they naturally pre-abstract the subject. However, I wanted to take it further. All detail from the original scene was sacrificed. Compositionally, I chose to center the image in order to accentuate the mirrored effect. (See photo reference). And as in all my paintings, I recreated the color according to my own sensibilities. Finally, I worked up a range of textures and brushwork that allowed the paint to become analogous to reality background areas (behind the bridge) are rendered with less texture, while middle ground and foreground areas, like the reflections closest to us, have the most texture. |
