Ballard Bridge

Ballard Bridge
2000, oil on canvas, 30" x 22" - $3,400 - SOLD

Fog scenes are particularly appealing because of the way they naturally “pre-abstract” the subject. However, I wanted to take it further. All detail from the original scene was sacrificed. Compositionally, I chose to center the image in order to accentuate the mirrored effect. (See photo reference). And as in all my paintings, I recreated the color according to my own sensibilities. Finally, I worked up a range of textures and brushwork that allowed the paint to become analogous to reality — background areas (behind the bridge) are rendered with less texture, while middle ground and foreground areas, like the reflections closest to us, have the most texture.
